The purpose of a good car amplifier is to produce crystal clear sound with as little distortion, or interference, as possible while boosting the audio. A designer of high fidelity amplifier designer has one goal, and that is to devise a product that will have no result on the signal it’s receiving, other than preparing the amp to be sent to the speaker and increasing its amplitude, that is primarily the amplifier’s function. Amplitude is simply referring to the strength of a signal or sound without considering its content. It’s important to note that amplitude does not solely determine strength, but does influence it.

Car audio enthusiasts can use amplifiers in conjunction with an array of other devices to receive the best possible bump in their bass and reinforcing high amplitude peaks. There is truly only one mistake a person can make when hooking up an amp and that is not properly engaging it with the correct speakers. If a person installs the amp, they must carefully pair the right speakers to the right amp to avoid a system “blow-out.” The sound output must be strong enough and not distorted in order for the amp to work properly. That said, a 5-channel car amplifier is best for a full system of audio equipment, since its capabilities allow for more usage. A person uses a 5-channel amp to drive either 5 speakers, 2 subwoofers and a single subwoofer, or just 2 subwoofers.

The trick for most car audio consumers is to clarify how much strength is needed for a specific speaker. Amps, like light bulbs that create light only like when actually turned on, only burn up watts when they are truly generating sound in speakers. Regardless the capacity of the amplifier and subwoofer, on average, a typical room will only need about 5 to 10 watts for sound enough to be considered “loud.” The leftover ten to a thousand watts are only used in creating deep loud bass. An amp’s strength or power is dependent on the current flow it can maintain without overheating or breaking down in the company of a normal load of sound as well as the voltage applied to it.

The worst thing one can do to make an amp malfunction is by trying to force it outside of its intended capacity. When searching for a 5-channel amp to purchase, there are many retailers who sell a variety of them for every type of speaker or system. Finding the best deal requires little research online, as there are plenty of companies eager to sell you their wares. A consumer should look out for sellers who claim an amplifier has “peak power rating,” or “maximum power rating,” or “total system power” as these attention-grabbers can be misleading. Why? Because, essentially, a real-world audio system is not capable of total or maximum anything close to what a consumer may conclude with these flashy promises.
