Car Radio Installation
2007
Car radio installation is easy if a person knows what he or she is doing. Instructions are usually included with the audio system. Always follow these instructions. Do not cut any wires that shouldn’t be cut. This can short out the electrical system in the car, which can cost lots of money to repair. Have someone who knows about car radio installation available to assist where necessary. Putting in a new car radio is the easy part, connecting it is always much more difficult.
Since all cars are different, a copy of the car?s electrical system is a nice thing to reference when looking for the correct wires to connect. The receiver is the first part that should be removed. Unplug the receiver and pull out the old unit. The plugs on receivers are all different, be careful not to break or damage any other wires. The next step is to connect the speakers to the unit. The positive wires should be plugged into the positive connection on back of the unit. Next are the negative wires to the negative connection on the back of the unit. If connecting wires to other wires strip the plastic off the wires carefully and twist the wires together. Use electrical tape to bind them together.
Keep consulting the manual to make sure the connections are being made correctly. The next step is to connect all electrical leads. Sometimes leads are not necessary if an additional amp will not be used. The next step is to make sure the line in and line out are connected. These lines keep the CD player working. The last plug is for the antenna.
Mounting the unit should be easy. It should slide back into the dash if the right sized unit was purchased. If not, some companies sell adapters, which will make the unit fit securely. If the unit does not fit properly, it will move around and become disconnected from the wires. This could lead to many problems including electrical shortages and broken wiring. Making sure the unit fits is very important. If the unit does not fit properly and an adapter is not available, then the unit will have to be taken back to the store where it was purchased. Making sure the unit fits ahead of time is a good idea. Car radio installation should not be attempted by someone who has never installed a radio before. For people who have had some experience, these simple steps will greatly help.
